I Like Wine Wine Blog

Friday, July 08, 2011
Must be the middle of the month, because its wine blog time. Only 1 month and 8 days late, good stuff, good stuff.

Plenty happening @ ilikewine HQ. As im sure you can see, we've scrapped our membership discount program. We found it to be a touch confusing, and we like to keep things simple here (much like the attempted humour in this blog). It has been replaced by a simple mailing list and a straight forward pricing structure. You can still purchase 1 bottle, but obviously the more you purchase, the better freight rates we can offer. Purchases of 6 bottles or more will attract a $10 flat freight fee to 90% of Aus. Purchases of $300 or more and your freight is free. Simple.

We have also now added a region search which is very effective.

Anyways, enough of the tecchy stuff. The more interesting stuff is this months Wines of the Month. Beppe Pescaja's Soliter Barbera D'Asti is our red wine of the month. Full and sweet as a well mature fruit. This Barbera expresses the harmony of smoothly running summer days, the scent of a spring rich of fresh red fruits and spices. White WOTM is Zilzie's Selection 23 Chardonnay. While it is a somewhat odd choice as WOTM, the combination of a good quality product at a fantastic price is a winner. So in these tough economic times, if your looking for a good quality Chardonnay that wont break the bank, this white is for you.

Ill quickly run through this months wine sales. There are fantastic savings on quality boutique wines such as Paul Bettio SSB, Reillys SB, Argyle Heathcote Tempranillo, Cleanskin Orange Shiraz, (Buy a case, get a case of Chardonnay free) Symphonia Albarino, Zilzie Selection 23 Moscato, Barking Mad Riesling, Cascina Adelaide Barbera D'Vigna Preda, Holm Oak Cab Sauv & Feudo Arancio Nero D'Avola. We also have a fantastic deal on Remy Martin VSOP Cognac. Just $59 and you get 2 bonus Remy Martin branded cognac glasses.

Til next time.

I Like Wine Wine Blog

The I Like Wine Wine Blog is back and better than ever!! Meh, actually its probably worse. But still, it is back after a couple of very busy months. Cmon, you missed it!

May as well get straight into it. Have had some fantastic new wines arrive from Piedmont, Italy. New to Aus, and for sale online exclusively on this site, Cascina Adelaide and Pescaja wines both arrive with massive, well earned reputations.

Cascina Adelaide has been a working winery with its own "cru" vineyards for over 100 years. "Cru" vineyards are recognized on the basis of exposure, altitude, and soil characteristics that are capable of producing the highest quality grapes in the region. Despite its location just below the Castello of Barolo itself, it was basically unknown outside the local area until Amabile Drocco bought the property in 1999 and began modernization. He made a considerable investment in new equipment, engaged a top agronomist and winemaker, and added a new state-of-the-art gravity-fed winery building to the property. This is, no doubt, a super-star winery in the making. The winery has received many accolades including multiple above-90-point ratings in The Wine Spectator, above-90-pt ratings in Wine Enthusiast, 91 points for the Barolo Preda in Veronelli, and was winner of 5 stars in Decanter Magazine. In short, the long-held potential of Cascina Adelaide is now being realized and it is becoming one of the top producers in an area where world-class wine is already the tradition.

Beppe Pescaja has a reputation as a bit of a magician in Piedmont due to the striking nature of his wines. They have a strong personality and a fruity taste that is powerful and decidedly pure. It is possible to find Pescaja wines on wine menus of the most famous restaurants in Milan and Turin for example “Il Sorriso di Soriso”, the most famous Piedmont restaurant (3 Michelin stars) or at the Grand Hotel in Milan (5 stars).

Both wines have big ranges, so mix up half a dozen and give em a bash. While we're on the subject, the Cascin Adelaide Barolo Riserva per Elen 2000 is our Red Wine of the Month and Beppe Pescaja's Terre Alfieri Arneis is the White Wine of the Month. These two wines are the pick of the bunch. Truly superb!

Better move on quickly to this months Wine Sales as i've noticed this blogs beginning to get far too interesting. Ill dash through them, theres big savings to be had this month on Reillys Sauv Blanc, last months Red Wine of the Month Arygle Heathcote Shiraz, probably the best cheap Heathcote Shiraz on the market. Conte Estate Pink Hit Gewurztraminer. Multi award winning Aramis White Label Shiraz Cab, Paul Bettio Chardonnay, new vintage Castle Rock Shiraz, Sedona Estate SB and save big big $$$ on Thompson Locum Cab Merlot. Ripper price!

I Like Wine Wine Blog

Thursday, March 10, 2011
March 10th, probably as good a time as any to post March's wine blog.  I actually have a half decent excuse for posting late this month, the internet has been down at ilikewine HQ since Monday. What’s that? Monday was the 7th and the wine blog should have been posted on the 1st.....I am aware it wasn’t a good an excuse! Nobody likes a smart arse.

Anyways, enough of the sparkling repartee, there are wines on sale! Its McLaren Vale madness month! Well, not really. Just a coincidence that all our featured wines this month come from McLaren Vale. Cascabel Monastrell is our Red Wine of the Month. While us boys have always enjoyed a spicy Spanish wine, we were blown away by this wines uniqueness. An absolute must have wine at a price you can’t so no to. Usually $40, get it this month for $33.30. That’s a saving of over $7 a bottle.

Aramis White Label Sauvignon Blanc
is our White Wine of the Month. This wine got a 95 from Halliday, making it one of Australia's highest rated Sauv Blanc's. Get it this month for just $17. Fantastic price for one of Australia's best white wines! While were on the subject of ripper wine deals, Some Young Punks Passion Has Red Lips Shiraz Cabernet is the Sale Wine of the Month. Get in quick on this one as limited stock is available. (Only like 1000 cases of this wine was produced and we've only got a few.) Normally $30, get it now for $22.50. Ace deal on one of the most original wines you’re ever likely to come across.

As usual we've some fantastic wine sales on boutique wines. Check out this months specials on 12,000 Miles Pinot Gris, Conte Estate Primrose Lane Chardonnay, Harewood Riesling, Holm Oak Pinot Gris, Barking Mad Shiraz, Vigna Bottin Sangiovese and Cirillo '1850 Old Vine' Grenache Shiraz. There are some big savings to be had.

Also we've got some hot monthly spot specials coming up. So if you want to stay in the know, signup and become an ilikewine member, follow us on twitter or subscribe to our Ozbargain thread.

9 days late, a new I Like Wine Wine Blog record! Pretty sure if we had a boss we'd be familiarising ourselves with the offices at Centrelink.  Anyways, after a lazy January where a few members of the ilikewine crew took some much needed time off to regain their sanity, we're back!

Got some fantastic new wines avaliable, and some marvelous deals too! Two new wines avaliable are Carlei Estate's Nord and Sud Shiraz project. The gist of the concept is Serg has two plantings of Shiraz grapes on his Heathcote Estate. One is planted at the North (Nord) end, and one is planted at the South (Sud) end. The Nord and Sud project is an attempt to see if grapes cultivated at the two different ends of the same property would create two different tasting wines. The long and short of it is while the two wines are fairly similiar, there are some surprisingly subtle differences. The Nord Shiraz gets our vote as the superior wine, it is also our featured Red wine for February.

Scott Fiano is the featured White Wine for February. While Scott Fiano sounds like a third generation Italo-Australian, it is actually the first vintage produced by Scott Wines in Adelaide Hills. The Scott winemaking philosophy is focused on making modern and non conventional wines, wines that are the future. That idea speaks volumes to us. Fiano, an ancient variety originating from the Campania region of Italy, loves our Adelaide Hills summers and retains great natural acidity which allows time to develop some gorgeous ripe fruit characters. This wine was also just voted one of Huon Hooke's 50 Best Summer Whites for 2010/2011.

This months wine sales feature some ace deals on Castle Rock Chardonnay, Lethbridge Allegra Chardonnay, Knee Deep Sauv Blanc, Snow Road Chard Sauv Blanc, 35 South Merlot, Cleanskin McLaren Vale Shiraz, Aramis White Label Shiraz Cab and Carlei Estate Sud Shiraz. Save between 15% - 50% on these wines. Also, we have a Valentines Day Special on specially gift wrapped Mumm Cordon Rouge NV. Usually $90, get it for your loved one for $50, or $45 for ilikewine members. Probably left it a bit late to advertise it in our blog considering it is only 5 days away, but.....um....yeah sorry. Still a great gift idea if you get in quick.

As usual, follow us on twitter and keep completely up to date with ilikewine specials and new products.

The extremely late January wine blog.

One month we will post a blog on time, but it definitely wasnt going to happen in January. A few members of the ilikewine crew rang in the New Year with a few to many glasses of Holm Oak Pinot Noir. However, we can safely say we didnt end up as badly as an unnamed ilikewine associate who was woken up by a concerned police officer on a beach with no shoes, no phone, no money and no clue.

It is back to business as usual during Jan for us lads, which is great because we have some fantastic wines featured. Our Red Wine of the Month for Jan is the Sedona Estate Merlot. A fantastic boutique wine which is getting some rave reviews. Settlement Wines Late Pick is our White Wine of the Month. An awesome lil semi-sweet wine. Will blow a lot of people away with its quality. Perfect for a lazy summers arvo in the sun (if we actually ever see the sun this summer)

As usual we've got some sensational wine sales going on. Feudo Arancio Nero D'avola is usually $25, get it this January for $22. Or signup and become an ilikewine member and receive an additional 10%. That works out to an incredible $19.80 per bottle! Also huge discounts on Holm Oak Pinot Gris, Thompson Estate Locum SSB, Settlement Wines Pinot Grigio, Harewood Estate Riesling and Trivento Malbec. So get into those this month!

Finally, we also announced our inaugural Wines of the Year via Twitter on NYE. Paul Petagna's monster Piombo Shiraz took out our Red Wine of the Year. While Ray Nadeson's self titled Lethbridge Dr Nadeson Riesling had to be our White Wine of the Year. Two supreme wines that really stood above the pack!

Welcome to the late late late December ilikewine wine blog.

Forgiveness please about the late posting, obviously December is a crazy month and this year it has been crazier than usual. But anyway, thats boring, lets talk about whats happening @ ilikewine.

Some really cool things happening just in time for Christmas. ilikewine is now proud to offer a flat $10 delivery fee on purchases of 6 bottles or more* and FREE shipping on purchases over $300*. Onwards to our Wines of the Month for December. Holm Oak Pinot Noir is one of the best Pinot's we've tried in the last couple of weeks, and it had to be our Red Wine of the Month. Pinot Noir's are seriously underappreciated and they need some love. So if your looking for a gift to get a friend, loved one or someone that you dont like very much but have to get them something anyway, this wine will go down superbly. Holm Oak also produce one of Australia's best Rieslings, so if you want to mix up half a dozen or something, check out the entire Holm Oak range.

12,000 Miles Pinot Gris is our White Wine of the Month. As most white wine drinkers have realised, Sauv Blanc is about as interesting as natural yogurt at the minute, and Pinot Gris is most definitely the new flavour of the month. This Pinot Gris is both affordable, and beautifully concocted. From the multi award winning Gladstone vineyard, this wine has picked up a few awards itself and its pretty easy to see why. Get it while its hot!

As for our Sale Wine of the Month, we wanted to offer a really special wine at a ridiculously cheap price to celebrate our first Christmas online. Thompson Estate Cab Merlot is the gift that keeps on giving. From one of Australia's best up and coming vineyards, this Cab Merlot is sensational. Usually $50, get it for Christmas for $40, or become an ilikewine member and get it for $36. BOOM!

We also have some fantastic Christmas sales on Boutique Wines and Premium Boutique Wines. Since this blog is getting ridiculously long, ill list the sales and ludicrous savings.

The late edition Melbourne Cup Long Weekend blog.

Firstly, apologies for getting this months wine blog out a couple of days late. I know many of you were extremely sad that your monthly dose of average wine blogging was delivered two days late, but the order of the universe has now been restored!

We'll get right into the important news. November's Wines of the Month are unbelievable! Cirillo Estate '1850 Old Vine' Grenache Shiraz is our Red Wine of the Month. What makes this wine more special than most is that the grapes for this Grenache come from the oldest vines in the world. The 160 year old vines on the Cirillo Familys Barossa Valley Estate need constant attention, and winemaker Marco Cirillo spends every spare moment pruning and nuturing the 160 year old vines. The gnarly basket pruned bush vines were planted in 1850 and stand up to 6 feet high and nearly 6 feet wide. The Cirillo family have been the custodians of this great legacy for the past 35 years. Even with 8 generations of grape growing and winemaking, it was not until 2003 when the first Cirillo 1850 Grenache was produced solely from these great vines for sale to the public. The result is fruit with incredible intensity and the old vine richness not often seen in Grenache wines.

Novembers White Wine of the Month is from another fantastic boutique wine producer. Stephanies Dream Chardonnay from Yarraloch Estate in the Yarra Valley is one of the best Chardonnays us boys @ ilikewine has sampled in a very long time. This is the ambitious project of successful investment banker Stephen Wood. He has taken the best possible advice, and has not hesitated to provide appropriate financial resources to a venture that has no exact parallel in the Yarra Valley or anywhere else in Australia.

Some ace wines on sale this month as well. Ridiculous deals on Feudo Arancio Inzolia, Conte Estate Pink Hit Gewurztraminer, Lethbridge Allegra Chardonnay, Harewood Estate Shiraz, Barking Mad Shiraz and the ever popular McLaren Vale Cleanskin Shiraz. Make sure you take advantage of them. Literally crazy deals!

There is also a very cool wine event being organised by the French Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FACCI) happening Thursday December 2nd @ the Medallion Club at Etihad Stadium. Every year participating boutique vineyards and wineries present some 400 different wines from all the wine producing regions of Victoria. The event is a rare opportunity for to enjoy some of Victoria's best boutique wines in the one place. So check it out if you get the chance!

An unbelievable effor from a vineyard that was launched only 3 years ago!

The White Wine of the Month for October is The Little Wine Company Semillon. A beautiful wine from one of Australia's premier Semillon regions. This is a very impressive wine that drinks well now, but will improve with age and cellar comfortably for 10 years.

Thursday, September 02, 2010
Welcome to Septembers Wine Blog. We've whipped out our crayons and jotted down whats happening in our world of wine.

We've managed to source out some ace wines this month. The pick of the bunch is our White Wine of the Month, the Lethbridge Dr Nadeson Riesling. While its funny that winemaker Ray Nadeson has named the wine after himself, obviously he knew he was onto something good because this wine is superb! Made using traditional German Winemaking techniques, this wine is well balanced, fresh and fruity.

Heathcote provides us with our Red Wine of the Month, Mount Burrumboot Shiraz. Mount Burrumboot Estate produces the widest range of wine varieties in the Heathcote Wine Region. Handmade in small batches, the winemakers stick to the boutique winemaking philosophy to produce some extremly elegant reds. This Shiraz is one of Heathcote's finest and one of our new favourites. Check it out!

As for our Wine Sales, there are some crackers this month! JB Cab Sauv out of the Barossa is a boutique bargain $20. The awesome Harewood Estate Sauv Blanc Semillon is a ripper at $18. The Conte Estate Grenache Shiraz, which has won awards and accolades the world over is an unbelievable $13. Barking Mad Sauv Blanc is too cheap at $14, while we've managed to sweet talk our suppliers and get an additional discount on the McLaren Vale Cleanskin Shiraz, which you can now pick up for $90 a case. Super stuff!

There'll be some new wines arriving during the month from Murdoch Hill, Talunga Ridge and Carlei Estate, so we'll do our best to keep everyone posted via twitter. Until next time.
