Erth ‘1654’ Heathcote Syrah is David Crawford’s private wine project, having had a love of the more aromatic, fruit driven style of Syrah (Shiraz) from Southern Rhone/Northern Provence in France. David through his contacts and knowledge of the Australian regions, was always fascinated with the sometimes floral element in the background of Heathcote Shiraz made by other producers. As he researched this further he came about a particular clone (1654)
of Shiraz that was the source of this aromatic element and it was also planted on old friends vineyard in the region.

Aromas of lifted purple fruits and flowers with hint of spice, it just jumps out of the glass. The palate, is great you still get all that fruit power that you get from the region, but its more subtle, intense and very juicy. The small use of French oak is there, but not dominating the wine, just adding complexity. Tannins are soft and finish is very balanced.
